Console Table - Dress it up With Fun

So now you bought a console table and you don't know what to do with it. Do you put it in the hall? Do you use it as a TV stand in the bedroom? The choice is yours. When you finally decide where you are going to put it the real fun begins. You get to play with arrangements on and below your new table. And since console tables are long you have a lot of space to play with. You can also incorporate the wall behind you into the arrangement.

You might want to sketch a few ideas you have on paper or flip through a couple of home magazines before you start you designing. One of the easiest ways to really make your table pop is by placing a decorative mirror or large piece of art on the wall behind it. Then you can highlight its wonder by framing it rather than blocking it with tall pieces. Try hurricane candle holders for a subtle sparkle or maybe some unique candle sticks you picked up on your travels.

Next you want combine contemporary and antique elements to give your arrangement more life. Try a hand carved antique box or maybe one of grandma's carnival glass bowls that shimmers in any light.
Then add some greenery or fresh flowers for a more naturalistic look. You can add to this theme by incorporating lamps or planters in the shape of animals or insects. In a sense you are creating a still life much like the works of Rembrandt in 1600's Holland. You can create a work that is both valuable to you as it showcases your treasures and depicts valuables; the luxuries you can afford or maybe just the things you like. Either way you will surely have fun designing your console table arrangement.

While you are experimenting with different objects on your table remember the power of pairs. Symmetry makes things feel important. So frame your artwork with a pair of hurricanes lamps. Add some natural wonder with a pair of frog planters bursting with fresh green leaves. Depending on the size of your console table you need to be sure to include at least one pair of items in your arrangement.

Finally don't forget the floor. It can complete the whole picture; the whole arrangement. Match the green in the planters above with a basket filled with another green plant. Stone spheres add to the earthy feel of your arrangement and sit graciously on the floor. Whatever theme you decide to go with you need to incorporate the floor. Showing off some of your doll collection? Include an antique bassinette with a doll below or maybe a pair of doll chairs or a red wagon for Raggedy Ann and Andy to lounge in.

No matter what items you choose it is important to have fun creating your arrangement. Silver or gold, modern or old, mirror or painting; your choices reflect your style. And when you put all these elements together you create a console table masterpiece worthy of any spot in your home.
